Browsing Available Jobs
- Navigate to the Jobs Board (
/jobsboard) from your dashboard. - Filter by Hero’s Journey stage using the stage selector. Choose from Call, Commitment, Building, Testing, Launch, or Completion. You can select multiple stages to see jobs in any of those phases.
- Review job listings that display job title, description summary, current stage, required skills, estimated timeline, and rate range.
- Watch for real-time updates - new jobs appear automatically as clients post them, and jobs update when they transition between stages.
Starting an Anonymous Conversation
- Click “Ask Question” on any job that interests you.
- Send your message - the client sees you as “Anonymous Expert #[ID]” without your real name or profile.
- Continue the conversation - ask clarifying questions about scope, timeline, tech stack, or team structure. The client responds without seeing your identity.
- Manage multiple chats in your inbox (
/jobsboard). Each conversation shows the job title, last message preview, and unread count.
From Anonymous to Identified
- Accept a job allocation when Fiftyknots matches you to an opportunity.
- Identities reveal automatically - both you and the client see real names and profiles.
- Continue the conversation - previous “Anonymous Expert” messages now show your actual name. Chat history remains intact with full context.
- Move to project messaging for ongoing collaboration after identity reveal.
Common Questions
Can I ask questions on multiple jobs at once?Yes. Each job creates a separate anonymous chat thread. Your anonymous ID differs across jobs for privacy - you might be “Anonymous Expert #42” on one job and “#17” on another. Manage all conversations from your unified inbox. What if the client doesn’t respond to my questions?
You’ll receive a notification if questions remain unanswered after 24 hours. If you get no response within 48 hours, you can abandon the conversation and explore other opportunities. The system reminds clients of pending questions at the 24-hour mark. Will my identity ever leak during anonymous chat?
Your name and profile stay hidden until you accept a job. Avoid sharing emails, phone numbers, or identifying details in messages. The platform warns you against this and uses pattern detection to flag potential identity reveals. If you decline a job or aren’t selected, you remain anonymous permanently. What happens to my chat if a job gets filled while I’m asking questions?
The system notifies you that the job is no longer available and archives the conversation. You’ll see similar job recommendations based on your discussion. Your chat history remains accessible for reference, but the conversation closes automatically. Can other experts see my anonymous questions?
No. Each expert has a separate private chat thread with the client. Your questions, the client’s answers, and your anonymous ID are visible only to you and the client - never to other experts.
Troubleshooting
I sent a message but don’t see a reply notification.Check your notification settings in your profile. Client responses trigger notifications within 5 minutes. If the client hasn’t read your message yet, you won’t receive a reply. Review the conversation in your inbox - unread messages show a visual indicator. The job listing changed stages while I was chatting about it.
This is normal - jobs evolve as clients progress. You’ll receive a notification when a job transitions to a new stage. The conversation continues uninterrupted. Review the updated job details to adjust your questions if needed. I accidentally revealed identifying information in an anonymous chat.
Flag your own message immediately using the message menu. Fiftyknots moderators review flagged content and can intervene. In future chats, the system will warn you before sending messages that contain email addresses or phone numbers. My inbox shows unread messages but the conversation appears empty.
This indicates a synchronization delay. Refresh the page. If messages still don’t appear, the chat session may have closed due to job allocation or removal. Check for a notification about the job’s status change.
