The platform tracks your progress from signup to first expert match and sends you the right guidance at the right time. You get milestone emails when you complete key steps, nudges when you slow down, and recovery help if you get stuck. The system adapts to your business stage (Zero to Founder, Scaling, Exit Strategy) so every message speaks to where you are right now.

2. Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Complete signup and verify your phone number - You receive a welcome email immediately with next steps to build your profile.
  2. Build your founder profile - After 5 minutes of no activity, you get a “Let’s Get Started” email prompting you to complete your profile. Once done, you receive a congratulations email confirming your milestone.
  3. Create your first job draft - Navigate to the Jobs Board or Dashboard and click “Create New Job.” The system detects this action and sends you an ICP selection guide.
  4. Select your ICP category - Choose from Zero to Founder, First Sale, Scaling, AI-Powered Revenue, Strategic Exit, or Exit Strategy. You immediately receive tailored guidance based on your selection.
  5. Complete the project wizard (4 steps) - Work through the wizard at your own pace. After completing step 1, you receive optional guidance after 30 minutes. If you pause for 48 hours, you get a recovery email to help you restart.
  6. Submit your brief - Review and submit your project brief. You receive instant confirmation that your brief is under review.
  7. Receive your BRS (Build Requirements Spec) - Once generated, you get an email that your BRS is ready with a link to review.
  8. Get matched with an expert - When matchmaking completes, you receive notification that your expert is assigned.
The system caps emails at 2 per week, so you never feel spammed. If you’re actively using the platform (logged in within 24 hours), recovery nudges are skipped.

3. Common Questions

What happens if I abandon my profile halfway through?
After 24 hours of inactivity on an incomplete profile, you receive a recovery email with tips to finish. This email explains why completing your profile unlocks the full platform experience and provides a direct link to continue.
Can I change my ICP category after selecting it?
Yes. Update your ICP in your profile settings at any time. All future onboarding emails will reflect your new category - for example, switching from Zero to Founder (MVP validation focus) to Exit Strategy (enterprise compliance focus) changes the examples and recommendations you see.
Why did I stop receiving onboarding emails?
You hit the 2-email-per-week limit to prevent spam. Emails queue for the following week. Alternatively, if you’ve been active in the last 24 hours, the system skips nudge emails because you’re already engaged.
How do I know where I am in the onboarding process?
Check your Dashboard for a progress indicator showing which steps you’ve completed. The system tracks 17 distinct states from signup to first expert match, and your dashboard reflects your current position.
What if I don’t want onboarding emails anymore?
Click the unsubscribe link in any onboarding email. You’ll stop receiving automated guidance but can still access the platform normally. You can re-enable onboarding emails in your profile notification preferences.

4. Troubleshooting

I completed my profile but didn’t receive a confirmation email.
Check your spam folder for emails from Fiftyknots. If you were active on the platform when the email was scheduled, it may have been skipped to avoid interrupting your workflow. Refresh your Dashboard - you should see your profile marked complete.
I’m stuck on the wizard and haven’t received help.
Recovery emails trigger after 48 hours of inactivity on wizard steps. If you’ve logged in recently, the system assumes you’re working on it and won’t send nudges. If you need immediate help, use the Support link in the navigation or contact your assigned supervisor if you have one.
I received the wrong ICP guidance for my business stage.
Verify your ICP selection in your profile settings matches your actual business stage. If you recently changed ICPs, emails sent before the change may still reflect your old category. New emails will use your updated ICP automatically.
Emails are arriving too frequently or not at all.
The system enforces a maximum of 2 emails per week. If you’re receiving more, contact support - this may indicate a configuration issue. If you’re receiving none, check your unsubscribe status in profile settings and confirm your email address is verified.
Profile Completion - Build your founder profile to unlock personalized guidance throughout onboarding. Your profile determines which ICP-specific examples and recommendations you receive in emails and throughout the platform. ICP Selection - Choose your business stage to calibrate the entire platform experience. This selection drives not just onboarding content but also which journey stages, tasks, and resources appear in your Dashboard. Notification Preferences - Control which types of platform communications you receive and through which channels (email, in-app, SMS). Manage your overall communication frequency while keeping critical project updates flowing.
