The Living PRD turns your product requirements document into an evolving artifact that grows with your venture. Unlike static PRDs that gather dust, your Living PRD scores itself across quality dimensions, tracks health in real time, and transforms into technical specifications when you’re ready to build. SupaSherpa proactively suggests improvements through WhatsApp, so your PRD stays sharp even when you’re not actively working on it.

2. Step-by-Step Guide

Creating Your Living PRD
  1. Navigate to your approved brief - From your venture dashboard, open any brief with a confidence score of 60 or higher. Briefs below this threshold need improvement before generating a PRD.
  2. Click “Create Living PRD” - Find this button on the brief detail page. The system generates your PRD in under 30 seconds, pulling key sections from your brief data.
  3. Review your PRD health dashboard - Your new PRD opens with version 1.0.0 at INSIGHT stage. You’ll see a radar chart showing 6 quality dimensions (4 core dimensions plus 2 stage-specific dimensions), an overall quality grade (A-F), and your current life stage badge.
  4. Edit and improve your PRD - Click into any section to edit content. Every time you save, AI re-scores your PRD within 15 seconds. Watch the radar chart update in real time without refreshing the page.
  5. Progress through life stages - When your overall quality score hits 70 and all core dimensions reach 60, click “Progress to Conviction” to move from INSIGHT to CONVICTION stage. Your version jumps to 2.0.0, and you unlock new stage-specific quality dimensions. Continue progressing through FORGE, VALIDATE, LAUNCH, and ASCEND stages as your venture matures.
Using SupaSherpa-Guided Improvements
  1. Receive proactive suggestions - Every 48 hours, SupaSherpa evaluates your PRD and sends WhatsApp messages suggesting improvements for your lowest-scoring dimension. Messages arrive with deep links to review the proposal on the platform.
  2. Review and apply changes - Click the link from WhatsApp to see SupaSherpa’s proposed changes in a diff view. If you approve, click “Apply Changes” - your PRD updates, the patch version increments, and scores recalculate automatically.
Decomposing to Technical Specs
  1. Reach FORGE stage - Progress your PRD to FORGE stage (version 3.0.0) with a quality score above 75. The “Decompose to BRS/FRS” button unlocks on your PRD page.
  2. Generate BRS and FRS documents - Click “Decompose to BRS/FRS” to trigger AI generation. Within 60 seconds, the system creates one Business Requirements Specification and one or more Functional Requirements Specifications, each linked to your PRD with traceability tags.
  3. Monitor traceability - Navigate to the Traceability Dashboard to see how PRD sections map to downstream BRS/FRS requirements. If you edit your PRD after decomposition, affected requirements flag with “drift detected” warnings showing exactly what changed.

Q: What happens if my brief confidence score is below 60? A: The system blocks PRD creation with a message showing your current score and links you to the confidence improvement flow. Improve your brief first by adding market validation data, clarifying your problem statement, or strengthening your success metrics. Once your brief confidence reaches 60+, you can generate the PRD. Q: Can I skip stages or move backward if I made a mistake? A: Stages progress sequentially - you cannot skip from INSIGHT directly to FORGE. However, your PRD remains fully editable at any stage. If you need to make significant changes, edit the content and let the quality scores recalculate. You don’t need to move backward through stages; just improve the relevant sections and re-score. Q: What happens when AI scoring fails or times out? A: Your PRD retains its last valid scores and displays a “Scoring temporarily unavailable” banner with a timestamp. You can continue editing without interruption. The system automatically queues a retry for 30 minutes later. After three failed retries, you’ll see the last known scores until the service recovers. Q: How do I stop SupaSherpa from sending improvement suggestions? A: You can dismiss any SupaSherpa proposal on the platform with an optional reason. Dismissed proposals won’t re-appear for 7 days. To adjust suggestion frequency, visit your channel preferences page (available from the SupaSherpa section) and modify the health check interval from the default 48 hours. Q: What does “drift detected” mean on my BRS/FRS requirements? A: Drift occurs when you edit a PRD section after generating BRS/FRS documents from it. The system flags affected requirements showing which PRD section changed, when it changed, and how many days the drift has existed. You can regenerate the affected BRS/FRS section from the updated PRD content, dismiss the warning, or manually reconcile the differences.

4. Troubleshooting

Issue: My PRD is stuck in INSIGHT stage even though my scores look good Check that your overall quality score is 70 or higher AND all 4 core dimensions (Problem-Market Fit, Vision Clarity, Success Measurability, Stakeholder Alignment) are each 60 or higher. If any single core dimension falls below 60, the gate blocks progression. The system highlights the specific dimension and section needing improvement. Focus your edits on that area and save to trigger re-scoring. Issue: BRS/FRS generation failed with a timeout error Click the “Retry” button displayed on the error message. If decomposition fails again, verify your PRD quality score is above 75 and you’re in FORGE stage. Generation failures don’t create partial documents, so it’s safe to retry without cleaning up. If retries continue failing after 3 attempts, the issue logs automatically and platform support receives notification. Issue: My momentum score dropped and my PRD card is glowing amber Momentum score drops when you haven’t updated your PRD in 7+ days and your quality score is below 80. Open your PRD and make focused improvements to your lowest-scoring dimension. Even a single edit resets the staleness timer and recalculates momentum. SupaSherpa sends specific suggestions via WhatsApp when momentum drops below 30. Issue: Two people edited the PRD at the same time and changes were overwritten The system uses last-write-wins but detects conflicts within 5 seconds. If a second save happens within 5 seconds of a prior save, you’ll see an alert showing who saved first and a diff view of the conflicting changes. Review the diff carefully before confirming your save. To prevent this, coordinate editing sessions with collaborators or work on different sections simultaneously. Data Room & Document Management - Your Living PRD connects to your venture’s data room. When you generate investor documents or GTM assets, the system pulls validated requirements directly from your PRD. Changes you make to the PRD can trigger updates to linked data room sections, maintaining consistency across your venture documentation. Brief Confidence Assessment - Your Living PRD originates from an approved brief. The confidence assessment that runs on your brief also informs your PRD’s initial quality scores. If you significantly update your brief after creating the PRD, the system detects drift and suggests reconciling the PRD with the updated brief content. SupaSherpa Context & Momentum Tracking - SupaSherpa’s understanding of your venture journey includes your PRD health and momentum scores. When you ask SupaSherpa for guidance on next steps, it factors in your PRD stage and quality dimensions to provide contextually relevant suggestions.
